What is Permawood?

Permawood is the name given to our ABS shutters. ABS stands for Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene which is quite a mouthful! ABS is a strong, durable, waterproof plastic often used for car parts such as bumpers and dashboards.

ABS is strong and lightweight making it an ideal material to make waterproof shutters from.

The combination of the rigidity of the acrylonitrile, the toughness of the polybutadiene rubber and the smooth finish of the styrene polymers gives ABS a clear advantage over other plastic-coated shutters. This combination produces a lightweight, tough, strong and durable shutter that has a smooth finish and most importantly is waterproof. This product is high in demand. The Permawood shutters can be used indoors in wet rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and swimming pools – anywhere that water would normally be a problem.

Our Permawood Shutters

Our Permawood shutters are manufactured with a hardwood core and finished with that all important ABS coating. The finish is comparable to any of the painted, stained or oiled shutters and looks equally as stunning.

The Permawood shutters are manufactured to the same high standards as all our other ranges: the wood is kiln-dried, twice, the stiles of the shutter panels are engineered preventing twisting and warping and we use mortice and tenon joints between the stile and the rail rather than the cheaper dowelled alternative.

All this means we are able to provide a full 3 year warranty on our window shutters giving you peace of mind when making any purchase.

Permawood Louvres Sizes

With Permawood shutters there are 4 different louvre sizes to choose from. The maximum width we can manufacture a single panel is 660mm with a maximum multi-panel width of 660mm with up to 2 panels hinged together. The largest panel height is 3000mm or 3 metres and the smallest is 250mm.

What Are Plantation Shutters Made From?

More often than not they will be made from wood. Wooden Shutters are the most versatile; they can be made into any shape like a circle, triangle, hexagon, octagon etc. By far the most popular shaped shutter is the arched shutter. Wood Shutters can also be stained or painted, theres is so much more choice on offer with wooden interior shutters.

Can Plantation Shutters be Used Outside?

The simple answer is no, they are interior shutters for indoors. We do have exterior shutters specifically designed for outdoor use but they do not have the moveable louvres and control rod. Our exterior shutters are made from Western Red Cedar or Siberian Larch and are custom made to measure not off the shelf cheap shutters.

Do you offer Traditional Victorian Window Shutters?

We offer Solid Panel Shutters in the Victorian style. They are not exactly the same but the modern equivalent with a choice of moulded our raised panels. Made from Premium Basswood with longer life mortise and tenon joints our Solid Panel Victorian Window Shutters will last just as long as the original Victorian Shutters.
