What are Café Style Shutters?
Plantation Shutters, or simply wooden shutters, come in a variety of different styles, materials and finishes. The breadth of options available can making selecting the right shutter difficult, but in attempting to make your decision more straightforward, we will review the styles of shutters that are available to you. There are 6 main design styles of interior window shutter and here we will look at café style shutters.
Café Style Shutters provide the user with the ability to control privacy, typically through the bottom half of the window and the upper half of the window is left uncovered to maximise the light into the room. They are very popular in bay fronted homes, often seen with roman blinds or roller blinds above to finish off the look.
Café style plantation shutters are also known as half height interior shutters or short shutters. In the UK the term to use is café style. Typically, café shutters are fitted to the bottom half of the window or opening and mimic the half height net curtains of traditional French cafes.
Café style shutters don’t need to be restricted to half-height; any height can be set. The term café shutters is used to denote a set of shutters that are not full height, so café shutters can be anything from 25-75% of the window height.
If you have windows that have a transom or other horizontal divider, then it is popular to have your café style plantation shutters made so the top of the shutter is level with the window divider. As mentioned earlier, it’s become increasingly popular to have roller blinds, roman blinds or even curtains to complement your café shutters as they help balance the dressing of the window and give it a finished look.
